Money Making

A new experience

This year we decided to do something new for our summer holiday. A road trip around Wales accessing Airbnb.

We have been selling loads of stuff on eBay since January and love the thrill of getting a few pounds for stuff sitting around the house that we never use. Lately each spare weekend has been taken up going to charity/thrift shops to buy items to ‘flip’ (sell for a higher price on an online platform).

So the plan is to buy and sell on our road trip and to write about it as we go along.

Airbnb was originally founded in 2008. it is a trusted online community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodation and experiences around the world.

When you go on the site you will see it is also booking simple shopping experiences, for example, Sarah takes you vintage shopping around Dublin for a small fee. You can learn new skills or experience adventures in a personal manner.

It is a cheap and welcoming experience that can just be a bed for the night or a total mind-blowing experience like staying in a castle.

Its advertised as world-class customer service and a growing community of users, an easy way for people to monetise their extra space and skills they have to an audience of millions.

Our first Airbnb

Our first house has been lovely, the owners happen to be away so we have free use of their house, we have our own ensuite bedroom and use of all the amenities. there is even a little book telling us where the tea, coffee and breakfast is, local eateries, local sightseeing and shopping experiences.

Our charges for this is £60 for 2 nights as apposed to £144 in the local Premier Inn.

Our second Airbnb

Our second home, is situated in Saundersfoot nr Cardiff, a 2 bed bungalow, we are staying with a semiretired lady who is new to Airbnb. Our room is beautiful, nothing is too much trouble. We have ensuite bathroom, our own tea making facilities and continental breakfast in our room.

The room is freshly decorated and everywhere is clean and tidy. Again it is a fraction of the cost of a Bed and Breakfast or  a hotel in the area. A great way to top up your pension. £82 for 2 nights

Our third Airbnb

Our third home was in Aeraeron, a wonderful home with an ensuite bathroom. The hosts really looked after us and we had the option of a cooked breakfast, the hosts cooked a gluten free cake which was delicious.  The room was amazing and the host even swapped our duvet for a lighter one when we said we were too hot. £125 for 2 nights.

Our forth Airbnb

This was real eye opener, a converted chapel which was amazing, we had the whole place to our  we had access to the washing machine too. There was a printed pamphlet telling us where to fine things and how to operate items in the house. £80 for 2 nights.

Our fifth and final Airbnb

This last Airbnb had other guests staying at the same time, the host was very hands on and made us feel at home. £106 for 2 nights.

Some of my favourite things about airbnb

Each room has been totally different, each one has been well looked after and kept clean and tidy, but my favourite things are;

Fresh towels

Tea and coffee making facitities

Bottled water

Extra pillows

Television (not all rooms have one)

Ensuite facilities

Information leaflets

Please tell me about your experiences and especially if you can recommend any Airbnb for our future road trips
